diocese
Holy Trinity is one of 42 congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane and one of seven congregations in the Spokane-area. The diocese stretches east from the Cascades through northern Idaho and on to Montana and is bordered by Canada to the north and Oregon to the south. All Episcopalians within the diocese are intimately connected to each other through common affection for our bishop, the Rt. Rev. James E. Waggoner, Jr., who we recognize to be our chief pastor and prophet — holding before us a compelling vision of the Kingdom toward which all our ministries contribute. We also enjoy the benefits of a gifted diocesan staff who are poised to support us all in our best efforts to strengthen our local congregations.
The bishop’s “home church” is the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist where, several times each year, he presides from his cathedra, or bishop’s chair. As the bishop’s home church, it is also, in a very real sense, the home church for all Episcopalians in the Diocese of Spokane. All are invited and encouraged to take full advantage of any opportunity to worship, to work, and to learn at the cathedral. For up to date information on upcoming events at the cathedral, check the cathedral subpage above and click on the most current version of the monthly events calendar.
As members of the diocese, we share a common mission with our brothers and sisters in the other member churches. To strengthen our common life, we share with each other both in prayer and practice, encouraging each other and participating in each other’s life to the highest degree possible. We also share together in the ministry of Camp Cross, which has been in the diocesan family since 1923 and has been forming hearts and minds on the shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene since 1954.
