“If you put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt, and to every evil word; if you give food to the hungry and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon. And I will always guide you and satisfy you with good things. I will keep you strong and well. You will be like a garden that has plenty of water, like a spring of water that never goes dry. Your people will rebuild what has long been in ruins, building again on the old foundations. You will be known as the people who rebuilt the walls, who restored the ruined houses.” Isaiah 58:9b-12.

Welcome to ht dinner table.

Imagine a family dinner table: good food, conversation, a time to regroup and restore ourselves. At ht dinner table, we offer our neighbors—many of whom are struggling with hunger and homelessness—an evening of “being family.”

ht dinner table nourishes bodies, restores relationships, and nurtures families. We welcome guests as we would welcome them into our homes; we serve food that we would be proud to offer our friends and families. We provide family and children’s activities before and after the meal. We know each other by name, we share in each other’s lives, and we care for one another.

The early Church understood the importance of the table. Our Eucharist, in which we explore our relationship with God, is a sacramental memory of those ancient agape meals—love feasts—where everyone partook of the community’s riches: physically, relationally, and spiritually. At ht dinner table we seek to create a place where everyone has something to offer and something to receive.
