Classical music aficionados are invited to experience a unique and intimate performance in one of Spokane’s historic neighborhood churches. Blending the classical guitar of David Isaacs with vocal work of soprano Chelsea Camille, Chanson du Soir will grace the century-old sanctuary of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church on Tuesday, January 19. Net proceeds from the concert will go to Our Place Ministries to help low-income people in West Central.
“The stunning music of Chanson du Soir is a perfect match for the classic space within Holy Trinity,” said Kris Christensen, urban missioner at the church. “Supporting families in need is central to who we are at Holy Trinity. Raising funds for Our Place while celebrating rich music is a particularly satisfying use of the sanctuary with which we have been blessed.” A grass roots organization, Our Place Ministries serves the West Central neighborhood with food, clothing, laundry facilities and other basic necessities.
Established in 2005, Chanson du Soir has quickly garnered national recognition as a premier guitar and voice duo by being featured artists in concert series throughout the United States. In April of 2007, Melancholie et Espoir, their debut studio recording, was released on Abet Music. Gordon Brown, of KFSD San Diego, has noted, “Chanson du Soir’s greatest asset, perhaps, is their choice of bold, unusual yet intelligently chosen repertoire, which they deploy with a level of skill that shows great promise.”
Chanson du Soir presents a unique repertoire that is at once technically refined and emotionally engaged. Their current program spans the centuries from the Renaissance to the 20th Century, while traversing five languages. This intense set includes: Renaissance fare from light to haunting by John Dowland, a delightful set of arias from Simone Mayr’s opera “Adelasia ed Aleramo” arranged for guitar and voice by guitar virtuoso Mauro Giuliani, the entrancing “Bachianus Brasileiras No. 5″ arranged by Heitor Villa-Lobos, and music dedicated to Chanson du Soir by masterful new composer, Brian Madigan.
The concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Holy Trinity Episcopal Church is located on the corner of Dean and Elm at 1832 W. Dean in the West Central neighborhood. A donation is requested for admission. “However,” notes Christensen, “no one will be turned away for lack of funds.” To learn more about Chanson du Soir visit www.isaacsguitar.net/chansondusoir.
