pentecost @ the cathedral — sunday, 5.31 @ 10am (no ht 10am)
the easter season is fast coming to a close, as indicated by this thursday’s celebration of the Feast of the Ascension, the day on which Jesus is reported to have been ‘taken up into the heavens.’ Ascension is the hinge feast between Easter, during which we celebrate our brief experience with the risen Jesus, and Pentecost, the day on which we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus promised would come to be with us and to guide us in his physical absence.
in the spirit of receiving the Spirit, Pentecost has long been a traditional feast in the life of the church on which we welcome new members into the Body and also confirm the gifts and ministries of those already in the Body.
and so it is, this year, that we’ll be celebrating Pentecost at St. John’s Cathedral (12th & Grand on the south hill), and we’ll be presenting two individuals to Bishop Waggoner for confirmation. since we’ll be celebrating Pentecost at the cathedral during the 10am worship time, there will be no 10am worship at Holy Trinity on that day.
come hear Holy Trinity’s organist, Chris Nelson, play the Pentecost postlude at the end of the 10am service!
