holy week @ ht

ht sanctuary redmark your calendars now to join us at ht for the commemoration of Jesus’ last week.

holy week begins on Sunday, april 5th with Palm Sunday — the celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, where the crowds waive palms and shout loud ‘hosannas’ as our new king passes by on the back of a donkey.  Palm Sunday services are at 10am and a special 7pm Palm Sunday Holden evening prayer service w/ communion.

holy week continues on Thursday, april 9th with Maundy Thursday — the day we celebrate the mandate (from which we get ‘maundy’) to love each other the way Jesus has loved us, symbolized in the washing of each other’s feet.  the evening begins with a 5:30pm greek dinner in the parish hall — followed by a 6:30pm service of prayer, foot washing, and sanctuary cleansing.

on Friday, april 10th, we celebrate Good Friday with a 12noon service of prayer and adoration of the cross — marking the hour of Christ’s death on the cross.  Fr. Paul will be available from 1-3pm in the sacristy to hear personal confessions — the church will remain open for prayer during this time.

candleon Saturday, april 11th, the cathedral (12th & Grand on the south hill) will host the Great Vigil @ 7pm — the first Easter celebration of the weekend at which we kindle the new fire and receive ‘the light of Christ’ into the darkened Church, accompanied by the angel’s singing of the Exsultet.  This is the traditional worship service for new Christian initiation, during which we hear the breadth of the story of God’s saving love for the world.  Bring a pad to sit on and, maybe, some light snacks.

join us back at Holy Trinity on Sunday, april 12th to celebrate Easter Day — with a 5am sunrise vigil and a 10am festival eucharist w/ baptisms.  The 5am sunrise vigil will be our version of the cathedral’s Saturday night Great Vigil of Easter.  Join us on the front sidewalk to light the new fire!  The 10am festival eucharist will be our occasion to welcome 6 new members into the Body of Christ.  Come early, as it’s likely to be a standing-room-only event!
