weekly reflection: lent 5b

Very truly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. John 2

I have to assume George Lucas had this scripture in mind when he wrote the famous moment from Star Wars when Obi-Wan Kenobi gives up his life and is struck down by Darth Vader.

My kids don’t know this piece of scripture particularly well, but show them this scene from Star Wars and they know exactly what’s going on — the one allows himself to die so that he can give life to the many.

mark your calendars now to join us at ht for the commemoration of Jesus’ last week.

holy week begins on Sunday, april 5th with Palm Sunday — the celebration of Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, where the crowds waive palms and shout loud ‘hosannas’ as our new king passes by on the back of a donkey. Palm Sunday services are at 10am and a special 7pm Palm Sunday Holden evening prayer service w/ communion.
