cathedral lenten series

Our diocesan cathedral is offering its annual Lenten program, beginning Wednesday, March 4th. Each evening begins with worship at 5:30pm in the cathedral, followed by a simple soup supper from 6-6:30pm, and concluding with a short presentation from 6:30-7:30pm.

Now Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told him about her at once. He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up. Then the fever left her, and she began to serve them. Mark 1:30-31

Just what is the church for, exactly? This little snippit from Mark’s first chapter gives us a couple clues — both what it’s for and what it’s not for.

‘What have you come to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.’ But Jesus rebuked him, saying, ‘Be silent and come out of him!’ Mark, ch.1

Trivia question: what happens next? Answer: “…the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.”
