join the advent conspiracy
Join others around the world who are taking back the season of Advent — opting to give the gifts of time, talent, and treasure, not to fill the space below their Christmas trees, but to serve the poor and the needy and to work toward alleviating human suffering in our communities.
As we celebrate the season with family and friends, as we very well should, it’s also a time with thankful hearts to consider more seriously how you can share your gifts of time, talent, and treasure to make Christ’s ‘coming among us’ real and meaningful for those for whom God’s Kingdom seems most distant. And consider, too, how to make that peaceable kingdom more real in your own life — slowing down to appreciate and care for the people in your life, telling them how precious they are to you. Affirming the dignity and value of others can take infinitely many forms, so use your creativity to imagine how you’ll do that this year.
Consider making your charitable donation to Our Place Ministries (1509 W. College Ave. Spokane, WA 99201) to help them in their direct service work of providing food, clothing, and other basic necessities. Or consider volunteering with Holy Trinity’s Wednesday night ‘dinner table’ ministry or writing a check to underwrite the cost of these meals (P.O. Box 8508 Spokane, WA 99203). Or make an on-line donation to Episcopal Relief & Development to help alleviate global poverty and suffering.
Join the conspiracy! This year for Christmas, give hope and joy and relief.
