It's so easy to think of it only in terms of "it's time for me to give something up." I appreciate the chance to reflect more deeply on my spiritual alienation from God and the ever present mercy despite that. It's so easy to blame the alienation on myself and be blind to the deeper implications of that and the mercy that is always accompanying it, whether or not I am aware.
